Mes 34 années de médecine, soit plus de la moitié de ma vie… Après des milliers d’opérations, l’excitation et le sens des responsabilités du premier jour l’emportent toujours. Mon père était médecin, neurologue aussi. Je répondais toujours la même chose à ceux qui me demandaient ce que je ferais à l’école primaire et secondaire : neurochirurgien. Lorsque j’ai commencé mon internat en neurochirurgie à l’hôpital Numune de Haydarpaşa en 1992, mon objectif d’enfance a été atteint. Deux points ont toujours été au premier plan de ma carrière médicale : 1. Ne pas faire de mal à personne. 2. La relation la plus importante entre le médecin et le patient est la relation de confiance. Conformément au principe « d’abord ne pas faire de mal » en turc et « primum non nocere » en latin, j’ai toujours préféré pratiquer des opérations sécurisées sous le microscope à partir de petites incisions. Je n’ai pratiqué aucune opération dont je n’étais pas sûr que le patient en tirerait profit. J’ai donc toujours été en mesure de me convaincre d’abord de la nécessité de l’opération. Ensuite, je convaincs mon patient. Je me suis toujours dit que la relation la plus importante entre chirurgien et patient est la relation de confiance. Comment une personne peut-elle confier sa vie à quelqu'un qu'elle a vu il y a 15 minutes sans une relation de confiance ? Je tenais à ce que cette relation perdure après l'opération et même à vie. J'ai fait les premières promenades de mes patients opérés depuis 28 ans. Parfois même après minuit à plusieurs reprises... J'ai toujours été soucieux du sentiment de certains patients de devoir voir leur médecin même à 3 heures du matin. Je n'hésite pas à donner mon numéro de téléphone portable à tous mes patients. Je voudrais que mon médecin soit disponible à tout moment en cas de besoin. C'est ce que je fais pour mes patients. Dans ces lignes, j'ai ressenti le besoin de décrire ma vision de la médecine. Français Le Prof. Dr. Rafet Eren a obtenu son diplôme de la Faculté de Médecine d'Istanbul en 2007. Il a terminé sa formation de spécialité en médecine interne à la Faculté de Médecine de l'Université de Marmara en 2012. En 2018, il est devenu sous-spécialiste en hématologie à l'Hôpital de Formation et de Recherche d'Istanbul. En 2019, il a reçu le titre de professeur associé dans le domaine de l'hématologie. Par la suite, il a travaillé comme membre du corps enseignant à l'hôpital de Başakşehir Çam et Sakura City, à l'hôpital de formation et de recherche de Bozyaka et à l'Université d'Istinye (Université d'Istinye Bahçeşehir et Hôpital Liv Vadistanbul) et travaille actuellement à l'hôpital universitaire de Biruni. Dr. Hilmi Apak is a respected pediatric hematology-oncology specialist with more than 21 years of experience. He is trained in pediatric oncology. Dr. Apak has led advanced treatments, including bone marrow transplantation, leukemia chemotherapy, and CAR T-cell therapy.

He has published 75 international medical articles, showing his strong contribution to pediatric oncology research. Dr. Apak has worked as assistant editor for the Turkish Pediatrics Archives Periodical. He has also held important academic and leadership positions, such as Head of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa.

Dr. Idris Sertbas is a skilled neurosurgeon with experience in both adult and pediatric brain and spine surgeries. He performs complex procedures such as brain and cerebellum tumor surgeries. He also treats children with conditions like hydrocephalus, tethered cord, and craniosynostosis. Dr. Sertbas is experienced in advanced spine surgeries, including stabilization for disc herniation, vertebroplasty, and kyphosis surgery.

He is trained in neuromodulation surgeries, such as deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy stimulation, and spinal cord stimulation for chronic pain. He also performs procedures for trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, and baclofen pump implantation for severe spasticity.

Le Dr Lechanoine est un neurochirurgien hautement qualifié doté d'une vaste expérience internationale. Il est actuellement consultant principal à l'hôpital Maria Cecilia en Italie. Avec plus de 2 500 interventions chirurgicales réalisées, dont 1 600 en tant que chirurgien principal, le Dr Lechanoine a bâti une carrière distinguée en se spécialisant dans les chirurgies complexes du cerveau et de la colonne vertébrale. Ses domaines d'expertise comprennent les affections du tronc cérébral, la neuroendoscopie intraventriculaire pour l'hydrocéphalie et les tumeurs, la chirurgie transsphénoïdale pour les adénomes hypophysaires et les procédures mini-invasives de la colonne vertébrale telles que l'UBE (endoscopie biportale unilatérale) .

Son parcours médical l'a conduit à travers l'Europe et au-delà, avec des postes dans des institutions prestigieuses telles que le CHU de Grenoble Alpes et le CHRU de Tours en France, et l'Ospedale Santobono à Naples, en Italie. De plus, son dévouement à la neurochirurgie pédiatrique a donné lieu à des collaborations internationales, notamment à l'hôpital général Peltier de Djibouti et à l'hôpital pédiatrique Meyer de Florence.

La formation du Dr Lechanoine est tout aussi impressionnante. Dr. Itir Sirinoglu Temiz is a Professor of Hematology. She specializes in lymphoma, acute and chronic leukemias, multiple myeloma, thrombocytopenias, thrombosis, anemia, and bone marrow failure. She graduated with honors from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. She completed her hematology training at Dr. Abdurrahman Yurtarslan Oncology Education and Research Hospital.

Dr. Sirinoglu Temiz has held key academic and administrative positions. She served as Head of Internal Medicine at IAU Faculty of Medicine. She was also Education and Administrative Manager at SBÜ Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk EAH Hematology Clinic. She has broad experience in adult hematology, stem cell transplantation, and therapeutic apheresis. She currently practices at Liv Hospital.

Dr. Ayhan Kaya is a neurosurgeon who speaks English. He graduated from the Dicle University Faculty of Medicine in 1991. He completed his neurosurgery specialization in 2003. He provides surgical care using advanced microsurgical techniques.

Expertise: spinal surgery (herniated discs, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, spinal trauma). Brain tumor surgery (microsurgical removal of benign and malignant tumors). Cerebrovascular surgery (aneurysms, AVMs, vascular malformations). Traumatic brain and spine injuries (emergency and reconstructive). Peripheral nerve surgery (entrapments and injuries). He offers patient-centered, safe, and personalized care.

Dr. Shady Mohammed El‑sebai is an interventional radiologist and diagnostic imaging consultant. He is the Consultant and Chief of Interventional Radiology at Sheaf El Orman Oncology Hospital (2021–present). He is also Chief of the Interventional Radiology Unit at the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University (2022–present). He has been a Lecturer in interventional radiology at the National Cancer Institute since 2018. Earlier posts include assistant lecturer and specialist, radiology resident, specialist at Khartoum Breast Care Centre, and specialist and consultant at Techno Scan.

Expertise includes CT‑ and US‑guided true‑cut biopsies and FNAC; transarterial chemoembolization for HCC and for liver, renal, and soft‑tissue tumors; percutaneous nephrostomy and ureteric stents; pigtail drainage; and RF or microwave ablation of hepatic, bone, lung, and thyroid lesions. He also performs PTD and biliary stents; uterine artery embolization; coiling for pelvic varicosities and varicocele; varicose vein ablation and sclerotherapy; and breast procedures (biopsy, markers, wire localization, Mammotome). He is skilled in US, CT, and MRI.

Dr. Cagri Canbolat is a neurosurgeon. He specializes in neuro-oncological surgery, skull base surgery, neurovascular surgery, minimally invasive spinal surgery, oncological spinal surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, neuro-trauma, and neuro-intensive care. He completed his medical education and neurosurgery training at Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine from 2005 to 2018.

Dr. Canbolat has contributed to research on the therapeutic effects of Etanercept and Ustekinumab in spinal cord injury models. He has also studied the genetics of neural tube defects. His publications include work on primary central nervous system lymphoma and surgical outcomes in elderly patients with intracranial meningioma. He has analyzed 228 cases in these studies.

He has worked at Liv Hospital Vadistanbul, Memorial Service Hospital, Acıbadem Maslak Hospital, and Vezirköprü State Hospital.
