Since 1998 he has been Director of the Epilepsy Unit at the Ruber International Hospital in Madrid, a pioneering centre for the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of epilepsy in children and adults.

More than 150 neurologists and neurophysiologists from Spain and Latin America have been trained here, and several of its students have successfully opened epilepsy centres in other public and private hospitals, both in Spain and abroad.

The program he directs has become a pioneer in Spain in the field of genetic diagnosis of complex epilepsies and advanced treatments such as drug repositioning, interstitial laser treatment, deep electrodes and gamma radiosurgery, which are used in patients with refractory epilepsy.

Dr. Antonio Gil-Nagel is a professor at the IE University, is an Ad Honorem Professor at the Center for Biomedical Technology of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (CTB) and is Director of the Epilepsy Department at the Francisco Vitoria University of Madrid.

The Epilepsy Program he directs is an international benchmark in the development of pharmacological research. He has been the Principal Investigator of phase II and III clinical trials, including numerous clinical trials and non-pharmacological treatments (epilepsy surgery, electrical stimulation, ketogenic diet and gamma knife). His research is funded by European Union funds and the Public Innovation Agency of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Spanish Government. Il est né à Niğde, dans la partie centrale de la ville d'Anatolie. Il a fait ses études secondaires à Adana. Il est diplômé de la faculté de médecine de l'université d'Ankara. Il a commencé sa carrière à l'hôpital des sciences neurologiques de Bakırköy dans la clinique du docteur Zeki Oral en 1987 et a terminé sa résidence en neurochirurgie en 1993. Au cours de cette période, il a complété sa formation en micro-neurochirurgie, qui a été une percée pour lui, à la clinique du professeur M. Gazi Yaşargil de l'université de Zurich.

Entre 1993 et 2003, il a travaillé comme assistant d'enseignement puis comme professeur adjoint à la clinique du professeur Necmettin Pamir, Faculté de médecine de l'Université de Marmara. Parallèlement, il a acquis des acquis cliniques et chirurgicaux dans le domaine de la neuro-oncologie et de la neurochirurgie vasculaire à la clinique du professeur Donlin M. Long et Daniele Rigamonti de l'Université Johns Hopkins, aux États-Unis. En 2003, il a reçu le titre de professeur associé de neurochirurgie.

Entre 2004 et 2010, il a travaillé comme chef de clinique à l'hôpital de formation et de recherche de Göztepe du ministère de la Santé. Au cours de cette période, il a conduit sa clinique à devenir la seule clinique accréditée par l'EANS (Association européenne des sociétés de neurochirurgie) en Turquie, avec ses services éducatifs et de soins. Au cours de cette période, il a terminé sa formation endoscopique de la base du crâne à partir de l'Université de Pittsburgh.

En 2010, il a commencé à travailler à la Faculté de médecine de l'Université Acıbadem et est devenu professeur de neurochirurgie. Il a créé le département de neurochirurgie de la Faculté de médecine de l'Université Medipol en 2012. Il a été chef du département de neurochirurgie des hôpitaux Memorial Health Group Istanbul entre 2014 et 2018. Il a travaillé au département de neurochirurgie de l'hôpital Maslak du groupe de santé Acıbadem avec son équipe entre 2018 et septembre 2021.

Depuis le 01.10.2021, il a commencé à travailler avec son équipe dans ma clinique privée située à Fulya et à l'hôpital Ulus du Liv Health Group.

Il a été président fondateur de la « Skull Base Society » en Turquie. Il est également membre du comité exécutif de la European Skull Base Society (ESBS).

Il a publié plus de 110 articles scientifiques dans des revues internationales à comité de lecture (SCI/SCIEx) et nationales, ainsi que 18 articles scientifiques. Il a plus de 250 présentations lors de congrès scientifiques, publié des livres et des chapitres de livres.
