I was there with my 4.5-year-old child. My child had a neck injury, and we went to the emergency department with great concern.
First of all, I would like to thank you for the help we received. Nevertheless, I would like to share some concerns. The communication was very poor – not because of the language (I am a German citizen and native Turkish speaker), but because of the content. After the X-ray, the emergency doctor told us that surgery might be necessary because he believed he saw a slipped disc pressing on the spinal cord. After the MRI and CT scans, however, it became clear that this was not the case.
When I asked why such a serious scenario had been mentioned, the answer was that the child was simply holding his head tilted during the X-ray. Of course, that was exactly the reason we came to the hospital in the first place. He should have considered this in his analysis. Because of the doctor’s words, we went through one hour of unnecessary fear and stress.
Another issue was the MRI examination. Understandably, it is very difficult for a 5-year-old child to remain completely still in an MRI machine for 20 minutes, and therefore no usable results could be obtained. A CT scan was then performed instead, but we were still charged for both procedures. From my point of view, I do not find this entirely fair. I refused to pay for the MRI.
I believe that doctors and staff should have enough experience to recognize such situations and act accordingly.
Please do not misunderstand me: I am grateful for the medical support my child received, although it was very costly !!!. At the same time, I cannot say that I was fully satisfied with the way the situation was managed.
