Le Dr Krishna Iyer est l'un des chirurgiens cardiaques pédiatriques les plus réputés d'Inde, reconnu pour son expertise clinique et son vaste engagement dans les soins cardiaques pour les enfants en Inde et dans d'autres pays en développement. Le Dr Iyer a lancé le premier programme dédié aux soins cardiaques pédiatriques dans le nord de l'Inde, une initiative pionnière, au centre de recherche Escorts Heart Institute (aujourd'hui Fortis-Escorts Heart Institute) en 1995. Sous sa direction, ce programme cardiaque pédiatrique est devenu la référence en matière de soins cardiaques pour les enfants en Inde et dans ses voisins d'Asie du Sud-Est. Le Dr Iyer a opéré plus de 10 000 bébés, enfants et adultes atteints de maladies cardiaques congénitales comprenant diverses procédures telles que la procédure de commutation artérielle, la réparation TAPVC par opération à double commutation, les procédures de type Fontan et Fontan, les corrections pour la tétralogie de Fallot, DORV, Truncus, etc. Opération de Senning, réparations de conduits et large gamme de corrections en une ou plusieurs étapes pour les maladies cardiaques congénitales complexes. Il a réalisé des travaux originaux sur la procédure de commutation artérielle rapide en deux étapes et a réalisé la première opération réussie de commutation artérielle rapide en deux étapes et de double commutation en Inde. Ses intérêts actuels sont le perfectionnement de la chirurgie cardiaque néonatale complexe, la chirurgie cardiaque chez les nourrissons et les enfants mal nourris, le sauvetage des patients présentant une cardiopathie congénitale tardive et le développement de soins cardiaques rentables pour les enfants dans les pays en développement. Après une formation de base, il a rejoint le département de chirurgie cardiothoracique et vasculaire de l'AIIMS et était professeur adjoint au moment où il a rejoint l'Escorts Heart Institute pour créer sa division de soins cardiaques pédiatriques. Il a suivi une formation en chirurgie cardiaque pédiatrique et infantile sous la direction du célèbre chirurgien cardiaque pédiatrique Dr RBBMee en tant que Senior Fellow au département de chirurgie cardiaque pédiatrique du Royal Children's Hospital de Melbourne en Australie en 1989.
