    Prof. Dr. Murat Kayabalı is a vascular and endovascular surgeon. He became a professor in 1996. He trained in arterial surgery at Charing Cross Hospital in 1989. He passed the European Board of Vascular Surgery exam in 2010.

    He has performed more than 2,500 operations since 1985. These include Turkey’s first in-situ femoro-popliteal bypass in 1989 and the first endovascular aneurysm repair in 1998. His record includes 400 carotid endarterectomies, 150 EVARs, and more than 1,000 lower-extremity reconstructions. Since 2003, he has performed carotid, renal, and peripheral balloon-stent and hybrid procedures. He teaches at Istanbul Faculty. He has practiced at Florence Nightingale Hospital since 2003.

Qualifications

Prof. Dr. Murat Kayabalı was born in 1959 in Ankara and completed his primary, secondary and high school education at TED Ankara College. In 1981, he graduated from Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (İstanbul Tıp Fakültesi). In 1985, he completed his General Surgery education at the Department of General Surgery at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine and became a General Surgery specialist.

Between 1985 and 1987, he worked as a Head Assistant at the Peripheral Vascular Service of the Department of General Surgery at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. He became an Associate Professor in 1989, and in the same year he received vascular surgery training at Charing Cross Hospital in London. In 1990, he was a guest lecturer at Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, USA. He achieved the title of Professor in 1996.

Between 1989 and 2002, he served as the editor of the journal Vascular Surgery (Damar Cerrahisi). From 1994 to 1998, he was a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Endovascular Surgery. Between 2000 and 2005, he served as a Board Member of the National Vascular Surgery Association (Ulusal Vasküler Cerrahi Derneği).

Dr. Murat Kayabalı has continued his vascular surgery practice for 27 years since 1985, the year he became a specialist, and during this period he has performed over 2500 surgeries. In Turkey, he performed the first in-situ femoro-popliteal bypass in 1989 and the first endovascular aneurysm repair in 1998. He has carried out 400 carotid endarterectomies, 150 endovascular aneurysm repairs, and more than 1000 lower extremity arterial reconstruction operations. Since 2003, he has also been performing carotid, renal and peripheral balloon and stent procedures.

Thus, depending on the patient's individual disease profile, different treatment methods can be offered, including open surgery or endovascular procedures (balloon and/or stent). In some patients, combining both methods (hybrid procedures) can significantly increase the success rate.

Dr. Kayabalı has been teaching as an academician at the Peripheral Vascular Service of the Department of General Surgery at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine since 1989. Since 2003, he has been working at the Vascular Surgery Division of Florence Nightingale Çağlayan Hospital.

He successfully passed the European Board of Vascular Surgery examination in 2010.
