In several spheres of medical service it is even the only supplier. Respectively, the medical clinic activity not only influences the students, postgraduate students and specialists, but also the medicine development in the whole country. Nowadays, more than 200 years after its foundation the medical complex is composed of:

• 3,475 employees (including 593 physicians, 1140 nurses, 917 medical assistants and 825 technical specialists);
• 420,000 outpatients per year;
• 44,000 resident patients per year;
• 16% of all patients are children.

There are four main reasons for hospitalization:

• respiratory diseases;
• perinatal illnesses;
• congenital anomalies;
• traumas.

Due to active and close cooperation with the Tartu University the medical personnel is ensured with pre-graduation and post-graduation education, the scientific efforts are also encouraged. Being the scientific and technical base of medical faculty, the clinic guarantees high quality of provided services and constantly improves the existing methods of diagnosis, treatment and medical products. Many medical and educational institutions of Estonia maintain regular contacts with the clinic which specialists are members of professional organizations and medical sphere associations all over the world. The clinic of Tartu University is a multi-sectoral institution and works in different directions.
