I have never been treated worse in my entire life by a medical professional than I was by Dr. Chapelon. She is incredibly rude, condescending, and abnormally cold. My husband and I are in Paris for two months for school and my doctor back in the United States recommended I have a check up while away for my pregnancy, just to make sure my baby was growing on track and that I was doing okay. We scheduled an appointment with this office, told them we would like a routine checkup and an ultrasound to make sure everything was okay. We explained our abnormal situation and told them that I didn't speak French, but that my husband would be there to translate if necessary, and they stated that it wouldn't be a problem and that most of the doctors spoke English. I also had my doctor in the States send over my history/paperwork of my pregnancy thus far, which I brought with me to my appointment. Upon arriving at the office, we waited about forty five minutes before seeing the doctor. Dr. Chapelon was immediately condescending and rude, making fun of the fact that I didn't speak any French and seemed incredibly inconvenienced that she had to speak English, even though her English was quite good, and actually ended up speaking mostly in French to my husband, which had to be translated. She didn't even know why I was there and when I told her what I needed her to do, she interrupted me before I could finish and said she would not do an ultrasound because she did not have time. I asked her what she could do and she proceeded to mumble things under her breath and roll her eyes, still confused as to why I was in her office. After arguing back and forth for a while, she finally agreed to do an ultrasound. She VERY quickly looked at the baby, listened to the heartbeat, but did not take any measurements to ensure proper growth, because she once again stated that she "didn't have time". She then asked if I had certain tests/immunizations done, which I wasn't sure of and said it should all be with the paperwork I brought, to which she responded was "absolute garbage" and there was nothing on there that was useful to her. *Upon looking over the paperwork afterwards, the questions she had WERE indeed on the paperwork I brought, she was just too lazy to read it.* I told her I could call my doctors office in the States, but she, once again, responded that she didn't have time to wait for me to call them. She then insisted on me having tests done and quickly rushed us out of her office. I had urine and blood tests done and got the results the next day, to which no one explained to me. Turns out I had some problems and ended up just calling my regular doctor in the States to get advice and information because there was NO WAY I am going back to see that woman. Not only does she have awful people skills, but I have no trust in her as a medical professional. I understand there is a cultural difference and a difference in medical care here than in the U.S., as well a language barrier, but there was absolutely no excuse for her behavior. I will absolutely not be returning to see her and will seek out other medical attention during my stay.
